Carefree Luxury Custom Home Builder
Carefree had its start as a 400-acre goat farm in the early 1950s. The land, along with over 1,500 additional acres, was purchased by two area businessmen to create one of the state’s earliest planned communities. The town of about 2,700 is 30 minutes north of downtown Scottsdale. Like Cave Creek to the west, Carefree has a higher elevation than Phoenix, giving it a climate that is about eight degrees cooler than areas in the Valley.
As the town name suggests, the founding concept of Carefree was the enjoyment of an upscale lifestyle. Street names like Easy Street and Ho and Hum Roads lightheartedly support the theme.
In building their community, the developers were careful to integrate the natural habitat and the area’s unique boulder formations into the overall plan and design. Open space, ample lots and "desert friendly" landscaping are very much a part of the Carefree style. Strict zoning regulations, restrictions and building requirements ensure that future development and renovation will remain true to the environment and the original community concept.
The modest size of Carefree limits available in-town real estate. There are generally no more than 100 homes for sale at any one time. A small condominium unit can be purchased for around $100,000. A single-family home will start at around $350,000, and a spacious hillside estate in a gated community can run as high as $3,000,000.
